Bellows compensators, types and applications

Application of bellows compensators

Bellows compensators are devices used to compensate for movements and vibrations in various pipeline systems. Their main task is to absorb vibrations, leveling axial, angular and lateral displacements, which prevents damage to the system. They are used in many industries, such as:

  • Power industry: in power plants and generator systems.
  • Chemical industry: for transporting aggressive chemicals.
  • Food industry: in systems that ship food and beverages.
  • Petrochemical industry: in pipelines transporting fuels and oils.
  • Construction: in water and sewage systems.
  • Metallurgical industry: in steel mills and mines.
  • HVAC systems: in ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Types of bellows compensators

Rubber bellows expansion joints are used in a wide range of applications, from sanitary systems to pipelines transporting potable water, fuels, chemicals, acids and food. They feature a temperature operating range of -40°C to +150°C. They are reinforced with special polyester or polyamide fibers, which increases their durability.

Fabric bellows compensators are used in flue gas and air installations. Their task is to absorb vibrations and compensate for axial, angular and lateral displacements. They can withstand extreme temperatures, from -90°C to +1000°C. They are made of materials such as polyester, aramid, polyamide, glass fibers and silicone, which gives them high strength and resistance to various chemical agents.

Bellows steel expansion joints are used in applications where high temperatures and pressures are involved, such as pumps, fuel injectors and generator systems. They are also suitable for water pipelines, mines and steel mills. Thanks to their galvanized sheet metal construction, they are resistant to corrosion and have increased durability. Steel expansion joints are also used in chemical plants because of their resistance to aggressive chemicals.
